Squadron 601 History

Maj. Forrest J. Broderick

Maj. Broderick formed squadron 601 in late Summer 2007

It had been a goal of his to start a squadron in Washington PA for many years. Too busy with other activities in CAP the project had been on hold until the opportunity came this Summer.

Formerly the Deputy Commander for two years and then Squadron Commander at the Allegheny County Composite Squadron 602, and more recently Deputy Commander of Group One for four years, Major Broderick is no stranger to organizing and effectively commanding a CAP unit. In February 08 he assumed command of Group One of the PA Wing.

Maj. Broderick grew up in New York and met his wife of 37 years Carol, while attending school in Florida. They live in Washington, where they own and operate two successful businesses. A construction company and a real-estate leasing company. They have two children, both are members of the Civil Air Patrol.

His goal is to build one of the finest units in the PA Wing.

He has a low tolerance for procrastination and often works long into the night and morning hours. His get it done attitude is summed up best by a phrase he is quoted as saying.......

"There is NO tomorrow! It's all just one long day, interrupted by periods of darkness." Maj. Forrest J. Broderick

He has a low tolerance for procrastination and often works long into the night and morning hours. His get it done attitude is summed up best by a phrase he is quoted as saying.......

He believes Civil Air Patrol to be a wonderful organization that has a lot to offer the country in the way of community service, education, aid to law enforcement, military, and homeland security.

He told us....." The Civil Air Patrol tests your limits, builds confidence and gives you a lot of opportunity to grow."

"Hawk Mountain is one of my favorite training experiences and I made friendships there that will last my whole lifetime".

" It's hard to explain, you have to be there and go through it to understand what I mean."

Maj. Broderick extends his invitation to anyone in the Washington area to come and join. "There is something everyone can do to support our country in these challenging times" he said.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". Sir Edmond Burke
